Circulation find - 6 new

Back on topic: While changing planes in Washington DC (Reagan National) the
other day, I saw a coin at the bottom of the escalator. Of course, I picked it
up. It is a 1999 5¢ (Euro) from France. Second tale: shipped a package at the
local USPS, paid cash and received a 1993 1/10 Balboa from Panama in change. -

2009 High Relief Double Eagle Questions - 2 new
-----------------------------------------------
...The short answer? Since exchange traded gold became popular, it's too high.
Even for a 10oz. bar, you can expect to pay between $35 and $50 per ounce over
spot. My own holdings are in American Eagles, American Arts Commemorative
Medals, and some semi-numismatic items. - Sun, Jan 25 2009 4:16 am

Semi OT: Three questions for goldbugs - 7 new

...Yes, you don't get it. You may well find, like the old baushkas and
military widows in the former Soviet Union, that your federal pension may buy
nothing in just a few years. We are now in a world where financial paper is
very very suspect and an awfully large number of smart people are chasing a
rather small amount of gold. Gold hit a - Sun, Jan 25 2009 6:18 am

NGC vs PCGS - 9 new
-------------------
In looking over eBay auction prices for modern silver Roosies, it's
interesting to note that PCGS graded MS70 Ultra Cameo/Deep Cameo/Whatever sell
for about 4 times those graded the same by NGC. Now I haven't seen a dime's
worth of difference between PCGS & NGC graded coins of this series, esp. the
modern issues. - Sun, Jan 25 2009 6:58 am

weights and dimensions of popular 1 Troy oz silver dollar coins ? - 6 new
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does anyone have a chart of the specifications for the 1 Troy ounce silver
coins such as the silver Eagle, Maple Leaf, Kookaburra, Panda, and Philly? I
would like to know the nominal gross weight & fine weight, diameter, and
thickness of these coins. Anyone have a link to a wiki or faq with reliable
data? - Sun, Jan 25 2009 8:02 am

Gold, gold, gold! The hallmarks of treasure-hunting are the stuff of adventure

U.S.N Countermark on Buffalo Nickel - 5 new
-------------------------------------------
Hi to the group I have recently acquired a dateless Buffalo nickel with the
afformentioned U.S.N countermark. After some research I came to the
conclussion it stood for United States Navy. In an old copy of Rulau, I saw a
1886 Morgan Dollar with the exact same Countermark. Unfortunately, that is all
it gives, and I can't find my copy of - Sun, Jan 25 2009 12:58 pm

Collectors vs. Archaeologists - 1 new
-------------------------------------
The stance radical archaeologists have taken indicates that they do not want
collectors to have access to any material excavated by archaeologists. Instead,
they want it all kept as "public property" by institutions. One leading
radical archaeologist has even gone so far as to advocate prohibiting the sale
of any artifact that has presumably been excavated, - Sun, Jan 25 2009 10:34
